Description: *Reviews product designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer requirements. Redesigns product utilizing DFMA principles to ease manufacturability. *Updates drawings using SOLIDWORKS. Collaborates with integral functions to verify work and assess the impact of drawing changes (throughout the entire “family” of drawings to include all references). *Gathers all necessary information to change a current product design. Combines various details from preliminary sketches, drawings, specifications and other data received from engineering and/or manufacturing to make required calculations and create final drawings for manufacture. *May work with product engineering and marketing to design new products to meet the needs of customers, or alter existing products to make improvements. *May select material and design the product so it can be manufactured in accordance with financial budgets and required time frames. *Drafts detailed drawings using SOLIDWORKS of mechanical items according to standard industry procedures (assembly drawings, explosion drawings, parts drawings, etc). *Participates in the PI (Product Improvement) process to maintain the integrity of the engineering change documentation and all engineering drawings/BOM’s (Bills of Material). *Consults, supervises & supports during production validation runs to ensure product is being built in accordance to engineering documentation. Updates documentation as required based upon production validation run results. *Responsible for tracking design changes impacting BOM and managing the BOM through the stages of the development process. *May help design prototypes or modifications to existing product or equipment. *May translate information from vendor drawings to detailed engineering drawings. May assist in taking field measurements and translating same to drawings. *Processes print reproductions, files drawings, maintains related catalog files and makes prints for distribution. *Maintains knowledge of plant’s processes, techniques, tools, materials, machines and equipment.
Requirements: *Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics and utilize basic measurements instrumentation *Ability to read and understand engineering drawings *Excellent problem-solving skills *Communication skills; verbally, diagrammatically, and in writing *Well-developed organizational skills *Must be detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities *Must be able to work autonomously and liaise effectively with colleagues in many other departments *Be creative and able to adapt design theory to the design of a physical product. *Displays working knowledge of CAD, 3D modeling with SOLIDWORKS and PC operating systems and application software including word processing, spreadsheet and graphic programs. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE *BA/BS degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering and/or 3-5 years of equivalent/relevant manufacturing or equipment design experience. *Must have at least three years manufacturing or equipment design experience *Proficiency in drafting software Solidworks and AutoCAD *Knowledge of multi-user environments (EPDM) *Experience on designing /detailing castings, sheet metal & machined parts *Experience working with large assemblies L.
