Description: This technician position is in the Research Laboratory (MRL) The mission of the MRL is to design, build and test novel microelectronic devices for a wide variety of applications such as advanced server systems, biomedical, photonics and sensor platforms. The MRL has a complete set of semiconductor processing tools which are tailored for the unique projects supported across the Company. The tool set is constantly going through replacement and upgrade cycles which require the expert level skills of an equipment technician. High Level Requirements: The Engineering Operations Group at the Research center is looking for an experienced technician to keep our semiconductor equipment up and qualified. Responsibilities will include preventative maintenance, trouble shooting and repair. The equipment is located both inside and outside of a clean room environment. The fleet of equipment includes; but is not limited to: films, metals, lithography, chemical mechanical polish, reactive ion etch, wets, furnaces, ion implant metrology and microscopes. *Job Duties: *Equipment trouble shooting, repair and maintenance. (Candidate must have electro-mechanical skills). Understanding of vacuum systems with the ability to leak check using a helium leak checker. *Coordination of vended field service engineers. Must be able to submit purchase request, ability to schedule repair vendors, escort vendors on site and ensure equipment was repaired correctly & close out the visit. *Identify, purchase, receive and inventory spare parts. *Update the equipment status tracking system in real time and brief management at least 2X per day on equipment status. *Vacuum pump forelines and exhaust drops: inspect, remove, clean, replace. *Vacuum pumps: troubleshoot vacuum system problems, disconnect/reconnect electric, cooling water, nitrogen, forelines and exhaust lines. Remove new pumps from pallets, install used pumps on pallets. Retrieve from and return pumps to our loading dock. *Exhaust Effluent Scrubbers: inspect upstream, downstream and internal. Disassemble and rebuild. Clean contaminated parts that are deemed salvageable, replace failed components *Basic Skills, clearances and other elements required, in order of importance, and number of years' experience, where applicable, in each skill: Priority 1*Education: AAS preferred but not necessary if life experience dictates otherwise *Electro-Mechanical skills *Use of digital multi-meters *Use of thermocouples *Vacuum systems knowledge; mechanical, turbo and cryo pumps *Helium leak checking *Proficient with Microsoft Office *Strong written and verbal communications skills *MUST be organized and a multitasker *Ability to think and act ahead to prevent unplanned equipment failure *Knowledge of toxic gas cabinets, Gas Isolation Valves, Valve Manifold Boxes and hazardous cylinder changes. *Knowledge of lithography equipment. *Knowledge of metrology equipment. *Knowledge of microscopes. *Experience in wafer processing.

Retrieve and return all necessary equipment needed prior to and after a cylinder change. *Semiconductor Equipment: Assist with chamber wipe downs. Replace particle traps. General electrical and mechanical troubleshooting. *Hazardous Waste: Package waste to IBM legal standards.
