Description: Candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, enhancement and maintenance of either Database Management Systems, Operating Systems, Data Communications Systems, Applications, and/or related software functions. May supervise a unit engaged in work related to the above areas or may independently perform related work of a highly complex, technical nature. In the temporary absence of the supervisor, may perform the duties of that position. This class of positions encompasses technical responsibilities for the design, engineering, integration, construction and administration of capital projects for communications systems. These systems include, but are not limited to, CCTV, Public Address/Customer Information Systems, Fire Alarm/Life Safety, Telephone, Intercoms, and wired (Fiber Optic backbone, SONET, ATM, TCP/IP, Ethernet, Carrier Ethernet) and wireless (land mobile radio systems, Cellular, Wi-Fi) networks. The selected candidate will need to ensure that the design and engineering of all components and sub-systems of an individual system are properly integrated to ensure the successful operation of the system. He/she will also be responsible for the overall integration of an individual system into a larger collection of systems with which it may need to interact. The selected candidate will coordinate the design and engineering of communications systems with both contractors and NYCT maintenance groups. Alternatively, the selected candidate will provide field support during construction of capital projects for communications systems. In this regard they will review technical drawings, computations and specifications for a variety of wired and wireless communications systems. They will also inspect and/or oversee field installation of various communications equipment and systems installed under contract to ensure quality and adherence to applicable standards and specifications
Requirements: A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and two years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience, or four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience. Two to six years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience in computer systems development and analysis, applications programming, database administration, maintenance and support, systems programming, data communications, mainframe development, mobile development, web development and design, including one year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project. (Four to eight years of this experience for Computer Specialist Level II). 30-Hour OSHA Certification and 8-hour Lead Awareness Course Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Electrical EngineeringNYS Professional Engineer license (preferred)Knowledge of Systems Development Life CycleExperience with network modeling tools, e.g., OPNETTechnical development/analysis of systems requirements and specifications.
