Description: The Manager, Structural Engineering provides leadership to a staff of technical professionals, comprised of both in-house and consultant personnel in the design and upgrade of B&T BU facilities, in order to ensure public safety and efficient allocation of engineering and construction resources. This Manager ensures that all projects are designed to the highest level of professionalism, code compliance, constructability, and meet design goals in accordance with acceptable structural engineering standards. Capital and operating maintenance projects must be designed with minimum impact to the public while maintaining the revenue flow. Significant responsibilities of this position include project management, field inspection, engineering design, development of structural design standards and guidelines as well as construction support services for rehabilitation projects addressing infrastructure needs of B&T's seven bridges and two tunnels.Other duties as needed.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in engineering or architecture. Master's degree in engineering or architecture is desirable. A minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant engineering experience. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a managerial capacity. Comprehensive knowledge of structural engineering principles and practices, and the ability to apply this knowledge to complex and diverse capital and major maintenance programs. Detailed knowledge of building laws and codes, as well as regulatory agency requirements New York State PE License is required. Must possess driver's license valid in the state of New York. Ability to manage technical staff.Ability to understand and resolve complex problems presented by field conditions which affect labor agreements, authority policies and facility safety, requiring prompt and accurate design solutions.High level of technical skills required to challenge technical results of consultants, when necessary.Excellent communications skills to interface effectively with the Authority's senior management, technical staff, consultants and contractors, as well as clearly present technical positions and alternatives.The ability to supervise up to 10 direct reports.
